چکیده

Multi-Walled CNT (MWCNT) are synthesized on a silicon wafer and sputter coated with a gold film. The planar surfaces are mounted on the tip of a piezo-electric actuator and mated with a gold coated hemispherical surface to form an electrical contact. These switching contacts are tested under conditions typical of MEMS relay applications; 4 V, with a static contact force of 1 mN, at a low current between 20–50 mA. The failure of the switch is identified by the evolution of contact resistance which is monitored throughout the switching cycles. The results show that the contact resistance can be stable for up to 120 million switching cycles, which are 106 orders of higher than state-of-the-art pure gold contact. Bouncing behavior was also observed in each switching cycle. The failing mechanism was also studied in relation to the contact surface changes. It was observed that the contact surfaces undergo a transfer process over the switching life time, ultimately leading to switching failure the number of bounces is also related to the fine transfer failure mechanism. key words: carbon nanotubes, contact surface, MEMS switching surface, fine transfer mechanism, contact resistance

Single Nanotube Voltammetry: Current Fluctuations Are Due to Physical Motion of the Nanotube

Nanoimpacts of single palladium-coated carbon nanotubes on a gold substrate are studied to elucidate the origins of the fluctuation in the current-time response of the hydrogen oxidation reaction mediated at its surface. The chronoamperometric and cyclic voltammetric responses from a single nanotube immobilized on the gold surface were compared to analogous data on a carbon substrate to determi...

Performance evaluation of Carbon nanotube junctionless tunneling field effect transistor (CNT-JLTFET) under torsional strain: A quantum simulation study

In this paper, the performance of a CNT-JLTFET under different values of torsional strains of 0, 3, and 5 degrees has been investigated. Simulation has been carried out using non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism in the mode-space approach and in the ballistic limit. The simulation results indicate that, under torsional strain, an increase occurs in the energy band-gap, and thus the...

Carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNFETs) are a promising candidate to replace conventional metal oxide field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) in the time to come. They have considerable characteristics such as low power consumption and high switching speed. Full adder cell is the main part of the most digital systems as it is building block of subtracter, multiplier, compressor, and other ...

Electrochemical Oxidation of Sulfamethazine on Multi-Walled Nanotube Film Coated Glassy Carbon Electrode

The electrochemical oxidation of sulfamethazine (SMZ) has been studied at a multi-walled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (MWCNT-GCE) by cyclic voltammetry. This modified electrode (MWCNT-GCE) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic behavior toward the oxidation of SMZ as evidenced by the enhancement of the oxidation peak current and the shift in the anodic potential to less posit...

Synthesis and Application of Functionalized Carbon Nanotube Infused Polymer Membrane (fCNT/PSF/PVA) for Treatment of Phenol-Containing Wastewater

In this study, polymer composite membranes comprising carbon nanotube (CNT), polysulfone (PSF) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were synthesized via the phase inversion method and used to remove phenol from the phenol-containing wastewater. The fabricated membranes were reinforced with the functionalized carbon nanotubes (fCNTs) and coated with PVA to enhance their mechanical strength and anti-fouli...
